QUESTIONS:
What are some examples of your leadership and/or teamwork experiences?
Either in real life or online.
I am currently the Vice President of my class at my University as well as a Student Representative. In both of these positions, I work with others whether it's as VP in my Class Council or as a Representative with the entire Student Government. I am also a Residential Assistant at my University where I essentially supervise an entire floor of a residential hall with at least 100 people on each floor. In each of these positions, I am a Student Leader with responsibilities and duties that I have to work with in order to engage with the community, make people comfortable, and improve the university.
What do you excel at?
I think I am pretty adaptable as well as a helpful listener. I almost always have a positive attitude and even if I am having a bad day I will either take the time off or not let it affect how I treat others which I think I am fairly good at. I am also open to hearing criticism about myself and I learn from my mistakes. I think these two especially make good staff members because they show maturity and the ability to learn from mistakes helps you grow as a person.
How familiar are you with the Lord of the Rings mod?
You do not need to be an expert to be accepted! I have been playing for nearly 7 years now having started early in 2016, and I am familiar with how the mod works as well as many crafting recipes and I am always willing to help with anything.
What is an example of personal growth you have done recently?
In other words, is there something you weren't so great at before, that you worked on and improved over time?
I think the perfect example would be from the Harvard Model United Nations event/conference that I took place in. I was terrible at public speaking and I was very very shy and never wanted to give speeches in front of a large group of people, but I still went to this event. At this event I made a ton of new friends from all around the world and the county and I made several long and short speeches at the podium within my committee of nearly 76 people. After leaving this event I came back to my university ready and willing to talk more in classes as well as in Student Government meetings to ask questions, give comments, and make speeches.
What is your role in the community, currently?
Reflect upon how actively you chat and interact with other players in the community, in addition, think about the topics that come up; is it TOR related or on a more personal scale?
Whenever I am in-game I try to make conversation when the chat is dead and I try to be cool and have fun with everyone. I also help new and old players with things they need like providing some nice starter tools or armor and even crafting evil stuff for good aligned folks. On a more personal note, I try to get to know my faction members and those I consider to be friends on a deeper level than I would with your average tor player. This helps me make friends and grow how I engage with the server community. I have only been on tor for about 5 months but I have made more friends than I can count on two hands and I believe that if someday I leave tor I will still communicate with these people frequently. (but dont worry that wont be for a while)
The last time you found yourself in a disagreement with another player, how did you approach it?
I got into a disagreement with another player over a kill. They killed me after I teleported back to my base and I thought the kill was illegal and they didn't, and because of this I had to pay roughly 30,000 bal to get my entire inventory back but then friends convinced me to talk to staff who solved the issue and told me it was an illegal kill. There is no point in having disagreements because you can just agree to disagree and be done with it, but if it is something where there may have been a rule break you should just let it be and talk to staff. This is probably the best I can get because I try to avoid disagreements and they usually don't happen too often because of the type of people on tor.
Naturally, not everything is perfect on TOR; what do you think needs improvement?
I have already dmed Mido with a few things that he explained or resolved and I thank him (and the rest of the staff team) for that. The only things I could think of are more frequent events (which are happening quite well this month) and then more community engagement stuff to bring everyone together. What I think is that not all events have to be pvp based. There can be a load of variety like relic hunts, scavenger hunts, pvp events (team or solo), and so many more. I also think staff could do a little to help sort of destigmatize or make pvp less frowned upon by the community because it seems like people who kill cant keep the gear they get because everyone will think they are mean for it.
Lastly, what motivates you to continue playing and to apply to the staff team?
I am always motivated to do new things on the server like fight, build, travel, achievement hunting, and just play with friends. As for motivation to apply for staff, I have a few. The staff team has really shrunk recently and that means fewer and fewer staff are on to provide help for players. There is also the /fly problem with building, less staff means fewer people to grant this ability and thus fewer builds get produced. I myself have had this problem on multiple occasions and I thought well why not apply? I am on during a ton of hours when staff isn't online so that solves the problem of server coverage by a staff member being online. I was on the fence because I am a more pvp based player who likes to have fun but friends just told me to go for it because nothing bad will happen either way. There have also been a few people who applied to try and throw their hat into the ring so I thought why not.
Thanks for looking at this and giving me the chance to apply.
