QUESTIONS:
What are some examples of your leadership and/or teamwork experiences?
Owning and running my own Minecraft server for over a year
Working with and occasionally managing a team of IT professionals at work
Being on a coding team and appropriately delegating tasks at my former job
What do you excel at?
Designing and building interesting and useful structures
Supporting people in their ideas and helping them fine-tune them into great ones
Being easy to get along with and genuine
How familiar are you with the Lord of the Rings mod?
It's the only reason I still play Minecraft and why I've never updated past 1.7.10. So pretty well versed. That being said, I've taken breaks in the past and some of my more relevant knowledge has faded. But that's what the Wiki is for!
What is an example of personal growth you have done recently?
In other words, is there something you weren't so great at before, that you worked on and improved over time?
Learning to let go. I've found that holding on to comments and criticisms doesn't do anything but bring me down and make me sad/irritable. Learning to live and let live has helped me be more happy and to improve my relationships with others.
What is your role in the community, currently?
Currently I like to be one of those people in the Discord that you can know isn't too far away. Someone who's online, ready to welcome people in and make them feel comfortable, as well as someone who can alleviate the burden staff have by answering questions and moving discussions into relevant channels.
The last time you found yourself in a disagreement with another player, how did you approach it?
The most recent incident has been within the Discord. I found myself offended on behalf of others, which wasn't doing any good beyond adding noise to the discussions. Letting go of the situation and allowing those directly affected to respond and resolve the conflict themselves turned out to be the best resolution. Providing a place for people to work through their differences would help resolve a lot of unnecessary friction among the community.
Naturally, not everything is perfect on TOR; what do you think needs improvement?
If you had asked me a couple of years ago, I would have listed numerous complaints I have. But since returning, those issues have been resolved. If I was hard-pressed to come up with something in need of improvement, it would probably be the tile-system rewards. But I know those are still in a balancing phase so I'm not too worried!
Lastly, what motivates you to continue playing and to apply to the staff team?
I've applied a couple times in my history of being on TOR but this is the first time where it feels like the server is in a genuinely healthy place. Staff has been amazing, events have been well-crafted, the tile system was a genius idea (Good job Eoot 😘),... I'm motivated to join staff to help continue these amazing trends and pledge to remain an active member of the server because for the first time, I can genuinely say I love the community and everything it has to offer.
