The staff and I were talking recently about player counts and how we could improve them.
While a few ideas were thrown around, I want to hear from the community directly. So, that's what this is here for. This is a no-holds-barred suggestion forum! Suggest anything you think will make the server more lively and enjoyable!
(Please, as always, be respectful)

If what you really want is to widen the player base, then reach out to other LOTR fan groups and invite them to play on the mod and the server. Maybe find a player who's willing to act as a public face of the server and spread awareness of the mod.
Something that I'd like to see on the server is a room (at spawn presumably) where you can teleport to various builds so you can look at them and appreciate the hard work that has been done. I don't have any specifics of course, but I would really love to see what other people have been working on - these "palaces".

We can’t do anything about utumno, fixing that is a mod problem which we can’t do.
We can only wait and hope it will get fixed sooner or later.

A server plot: one main quest that unites all of us into a cause. For instance, we could replicate the events of the Lord Of The Rings, and because of that, there would be awesome sieges and 2 players must actually go to mordor to destroy the ring, etc. Something like championships, where different players or factions fight each other in seasons and at the end there are awesome PVP prizes like Sharp V enchanting books, etc. Or crafting contests, where players have to show off a beautiful weapon made by themselves, even the weapon's name counts, and they also get rewarded rare materials like a balrog whip, flame of udun, or 24 mith at least, be more creative guys, all LOTR servers have sieges and PVP, I don't know, build Valinor and do events there, we would be like THE only server who has fucking Valinor! Make an event out of that where players must travel to the sea to find that island.
Cheers!
Good Old Strelok
PD: and bring Utumno back!

I just want to state for the record that the possibility of a complete reset has been discussed, fully considered, and we have decided it's not going to happen. The only resets anyone needs to worry about are the normal ones we do every major update.

Hmm I am up for a server wipe (but I do think that BIG builds -not just lore- should also be saved), it would make the playing experience more enjoyable as it’s almost a new pioneer-server.
Personally, I think that the server is most interesting when people build to make the server look better- (yewty built a load of ancient ruins for the sake of making the jungle look cool), rather than just sitting on massive ugly castles with loads of chests. Therefore, I believe people who build ‘open builds’ which look great and staff think has improved the look of the server- these people should be rewarded.
There is a culture on the server of not doing much or just pointless pvp, so I suggest rewards for improving server culture (eg Sak’s museum or building a jousting arena), these ‘entertainment’ buildings can be used for server and private events- meaning people don’t just sit on their backsides. The creation of guilds/societies should be supported, I think the best time I have had on this server was being part of yewtys adventurers guild, as the social side was great with also recourse sharing a great attribute to help out newer members.
The only faction that seems to be properly working is near harad, with active building - but it’s important to note that this is a group of experienced, and rich, players. How about a faction Olympic Games sort of thing?
Lastly, on events, I believe that it would be much better if we diversified (such as having jousts or maybe expensive dinners/ wine tasting events) then it would be better than the limited options now.
Main points:
• Reward great builders who build for the server not for themselves.
• Support culture-improving activities and multi-fac groups.
• Diversify the range of events, and let non-staff run them.
I do hope this has been partly helpful to the staff, any questions just ask me.
Arctic.

What could be a good idea if organized right is a server build team organized by owners to build lore builds one bye one starting in the West perhaps and working it's way East (Who likes the East amirite) I like Ruiner's erase the world idea because it would be thrilling if I just had my prized possessions with me. It gets boring because everyone has their builds and they just fart around and kill each other or sit in their palaces of course this would be a little sad for those people who just finished their builds or are near completion of mass scale builds but there could be compensation. Also another thing I'd like is custom titles be priced at 1k not fucking 5k thx.

So like you'd be able to keep your prized possessions in your inventory?

Full server wipe. The only things that would be saved would be 100% completed lore builds. Player balances (/bal) would be saved, as would ender chest inventories, but all else would be wiped to more or less keep the playing field level. We could possibly keep players' inventories stored in the lore builds we save, but limit it to a double chest or two. While we would lose a lot of players who couldn't POSSIBLY comprehend losing their progress, we would gain way more players looking for a fresh start rather than being thrown into a server where everyone and their mother owns a gmith (or otherwise very powerful armor) set.
I think overall this would make the server much more interesting and keep it alive while the LOTR mod team struggles to push updates that are actually worthwhile.
This isn't going to be a popular idea, but I think it's what we have to do to keep the server's heart beating.

I think that events are the most obvious way to get the community more involved and give the server some more life. The events don't even have to be super complex. Something as simple as a pvp arena with an easy bracket setup or something like a horse joust could get people more active. These events could be made and organized pretty quickly and they could be reused in the future. Another option could be a siege on a build like The Black Gate or Barad-Dur (with the owners permission). These simple ideas could give everyone the sense that the staff team still cares about the community (I personally don't think that you guys don't care, but people could come under that impression).
Another long-term idea that would need some more planning is, something like a quest hunt that if completed, would reward you with a 'lesser' lore item or some small item from the series. This hunt could either be riddles or clues to find the items. Within the clues, there could also be certain tasks that you have to complete to advance to the next stage. These items could either be like Lesser Rings or a different item that gives you a small buff like speed or jump boost. This alternative way to get rare items could give players with busy schedules that can't make the events, can't win them, or aren't strong enough to kill people with lore items, a chance to obtain them.
