I've been thinking, Market stalls in cities that people give out are relatively useless. No-one ever uses them much. My idea was staff could use Signshop to setup stalls where the seller doesn't really need to be present. That way players can simply stock a chest full of items they want to sell, and players who want to buy things simply right click the chest and the trade will be automatically made. I think this would increase the use of markets in cities much more. Thanks to anyone who read this,
~Jor

I personally think that having player-market-stalls in different cities that you have to buy from the owner is a lot better than buying a stall and never using it.
Totally agree. Realistic and lore-friendly.

Fair enough. I'm worried that one faction may not have that many goods for sale though

What about the market idea? A central market would be very nice.
Personally I don't like this idea. If we didn't have a central market then people would actually use the market sections of their own cities. Think about it; you could actually walk through player-built cities and find what you needed. RP style.
It really isn't lore-friendly to have a big central player market, and TOR really isn't that kind of server.

I'm pretty sure that with the Essentials plugin (already on the server) you can make your own trade signs. If I'm correct, it's currently disabled on the server.
The trade signs aren't disabled, they're just pretty crappy and broken in essentials. I have experience with the plugin Jor linked and it would be a better option than the essentials trade signs.
We'll definitely consider it!

I remember a few years ago they used these signs. There was one central market where anyone could set up a stall for a price. The stalls came in three size: Small, Medium, and Large (pretty sure they corresponded to banner sizes). Here you could set up your personal signs and anyone could easily buy items from you.

Very interesting, however this way of using bukkit is a lot more lore unfriendly then if someone would use traders. Now this would have to be an optional thing because some people do like to have the traders to blend with build. Imo, using bukkit signs would be for more of an industrial build rather than a lotr build.
